About Maris

I am a mother to two, a perinatal therapist, and a metalsmith/ quilter. I started making jewlery in 2018 about a year after having my first child. Motherhood woke me up in a way I could have never anticipated and for which I have so much gratitude. After going from tough job to tough job in my early days as a clinical social worker/therapist and then straight into motherhood, I realized I needed and wanted to make space in my life for the creative parts of me that had been craving a chance to thrive but which I had never really intentionally honored. So, I took an intro to metalsmithing class for fun and was instantly hooked. I also returned to sewing around the same time, which I had been doing on and off since childhood, and tried my hands at making my first quilt. I was equally hooked! The practice of these two mediums has helped me feel a great sense of “coming home” to myself by honoring the many different parts inside of me. In turn, my creative practice has deepened my clinical work with clients and mothers as I embody the importance and necessity of finding and carving out time for joy.
